Pathway to Phd

The London Interdisciplinary Biosciences Consortium (LIDo) and UCL Birkbeck MRC DTP, are hosting a free one-day event for potential research students who identify with one or more groups underrepresented in Higher Education. This may include but is not restricted to students from areas of low higher education participation, low household income or low socioeconomic status, minority ethnic students, mature students, disabled students, care leavers, care providers, people estranged from their families, people from Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities, refugees, and children from military families.

The event aims to support equality of opportunity in relation to access, success, and progression within the Higher Education sector.

Dr Michael Sulu, a member of the MRC ‘Black in Biomedical Research’ Advisory Group will open our morning session before delegates can hear directly from current UKRI funded PhD students about their own experiences. Ample time for questions will be provided through talks and panel discussions with students and academics. In the afternoon delegates will be able to attend bespoke application guidance sessions and have a chance to participate in small group interactive workshops covering interview techniques and presenting confidently.
